Our newly renovated gîte (as featured in The Independent in April 2009) is available for hire throughout the year.
The Gîte is a south facing detatched 2-bedroom house with large new kitchen, bathroom and spacious living/dining room which sleeps 4-6 people. A studio annex which can sleep 4 people in 2 bedrooms with its own shower/WC also forms part of the gîte.
We are one hour from the main airports – Carcassonne, Béziers, Perpignan and Montpellier.
Situated in a vineyard location with stunning views, our gîte offers a unique holiday experience in the heart of the Languedoc-Roussillon. Situated 10km (10mins) from the buzzing town of St Chinian where you can enjoy the local weekly market on Thursdays and Sundays. There are also 2 supermarkets, several banks, a post office, tabac (where you can buy international newspapers), Maison du Vin, boulangerie , boucherie and some restaurants & bars. There is also a great boulangerie in Cébazan which is 5 mins from the vineyard by car but worth the trip!
From Combebelle it is possible to visit places of interest including the medieval Cathar town of Minerve, Pézenas, Béziers, Narbonne, Montpellier, Perpignan, Carcassonne and Gruissan. The beaches around Béziers, Gruissan, Narbonne and Sête are around an hour away and the Canal du Midi (Le Somail) is literally only 20mins from the vineyard where you can rent a boat for the day ambling along the canal.
For the more adventurous, there is a riding school in Assignan (10mins), kayaking on the River Orb & Hérault (20mins), swimming in the river at Bize (10mins) or Roquebrun (20mins), sailing on the étang in Marseillan (1 hour), cycling with Mellow Vélos exploring the local countryside and much more.
A bit further out you can head up into the National Park of Haut Languedoc towards St Pons which is a spa town where people used to get their drinking water, and still do in some cases. St Guilhem Le Desert is a wonderful car free village in the mountains close to the Grotte des Damemoiselles where you can explore the cobbold stone houses and artisan’s gift shops and have a refreshing cool drink under the large tree in the square.
We have a large, 12m pool which is heated and a pool house with shower/WC which is available to all our guests. All towels & linen are provided. The gitegîte is cleaned once a week, with fresh towels & linen provided. If you need anything, please ask and we will do our best to accommodate your requests.
Guests are invited to relax on the terrace with a glass of Combebelle during their stay with us where they can enjoy the view of the Mediterranean & the Pyrenees.
There are some excellent local restaurants close by serving a variety of local dishes and wines such as La Croisade in Cruzy (literally along side the Canal du Midi) and L’Olivier in Cabezac, La Grange in Bize. A local taxi service is on hand to take you to/from the restaurant so that you do not have to worry about “drink/driving”! A bit further afield in Béziers you can sample great cuisine at Au Soleil with a glass of Combebelle rosé! There are also a variety of lovely restaurants in Capestang, Beaufort, Aigues Vives & Bizes – so take your pick!
We are keen to welcome all our guests to Combebelle and will provide a Welcome Pack of some local produce.
Please note that the gîte is non-smoking and we are not able to accept pets.
